Permuted Press has announced that Z.A.Recht, author of Plague of the Dead and Thunder and Ashes, has died.
This is shocking, horrible news. I never had the pleasure of meeting Z in person, but I talked to him by email as recently as last month. He seemed like a genuinely good guy – polite, funny and enthusiastic about all things zombie. Plague of the Dead has been picked up as part of a deal between Permuted and Pocket Books and is due to be re-released later this month. Such a shame that Z won’t be here to see it.
My sincere condolences go out to his family and friends at this terrible time.

A very sad loss of both a talented author and really nice guy. My thoughts go to his family. A real shame.
Although i’ve yet to read any of his books yet, I have seen nothing but good reveiws about them.
That is so sad, his books are brilliant, classics of the genre with so much more still to add.
I’m really sorry to hear this, I loved Plague of the Dead and the sequel Thunder and Ashes. I was really looking forward to the final installment too.
He was a talented writer who really drew in his audience and made them care about the characters and drew vivid pictures of life after the shit hit the fan.
He will be missed.
Does anyone know whether the final book will be published?, there was some talk but not heard anything since
I’ve not heard anything since just after Z died. I think the book exists in some form, but I don’t know how close to finishing it he was. I’ll post here if I hear anything further.
Thanks, it would be great to read the book if at all possible, I really liked his writing style and it would put “closure” on the storylines.
Totally agree with you ukmum to not be able to finish this great saga would seem unfitting (if thats a word) to the world Z created and we all enjoyed!
